What is Micro Roasted?

Large companies use large roasters to enable them to produce millions of pounds of beans each year. On average, these machines can each roast enough coffee beans to produce over 14,400 cups of coffee an hour. Being produced en-mass allows millions of consumers to drink their daily Java, however it has to sacrifice some on the quality of the product.

Meet the micro roaster.
Micro roasting is the process of small batch roasting.
1) Requires a Master Roaster (Similar to a top chef)
2) Ensures consistency of all beans
3) Brings out the best flavor and aroma of the coffee bean
The Master Roaster only roasts 1-10LB of beans at a time, watching and guiding the beans through the roasting process. This artisan approach ensures the coffee beans all reach a consistent roast level and taste the same.

Forest Girl Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee / micro roaster born in the Santa Cruz Mountains, currently roasting on the Central Coast in La Seva Beach, California.  We are a small, family run operation with a lot of heart and awesome coffee!

We have a simple mission.  Great tasting coffee made by people with a lot of heart and potential.  Currently all batches are roasted by Stephanie Wise.  Master Roaster.  Her daughter Zoey is currently in training!  She is autistic and a living model of the hope for the future our company is striving to create! Our company has the goals of:
** Offering employment, a competitive wage and a full life to adults with disabilities in our local community – our People with Potential.
** Deliver a responsible, great-tasting cup of coffee.

Our small business is currently a work in progress and we are excited to see where the future takes us.

*** In the future, we will be training our people with potential to batch roast. These are individuals with disabilities who want to lead productive lives. Individuals with disabilities want to thrive and be productive members of society. As a social enterprise, Forest Girl Coffee Roasters will provide a pathway for individuals who have aged out of special education programming. Through sustainable employment opportunities, Forest Girl Coffee Roasters will offer real life skill building with a level of cultural relevance that is sorely lacking in most employment programs for special needs adults. Our “People with Potential” will have a hand in every aspect of our business. Bagging, labeling, weighing coffee, and developing the creative blend names are all part of daily duties. Our goal is to pair great coffee with a great cause.

Creating a better future for the folks 6 blocks away, and 6,000 miles away. Our mission goes beyond the borders of our community. We also promote a better future for farmers and for our planet by making every effort to source the best, ethically traded coffee, using some of the best beans grown anywhere on the planet.

Forest Girl Coffee Roasters is ethically farmed and traded from coffee growing regions throughout the world. Each batch roasts 10 lbs at a time, to ensure the highest quality flavor, and a well-balanced cup.

All backed by a business model that’s fully, entirely and whole-heartedly humanitarian-based. Who wouldn’t drink to that?
